یک جامعه مسکن جدیدترین تجدید ساختار این ساختار صد و ده ساله است. ساخته شده توسط ادوارد چاپمن در سال ۱۹۰۸ بر روی بقایای اصطبل اسب ثابت خود که در اثر آتش سوزی تخریب شده است و فروش حیاط زغال سنگ قدیمی او ریخت ، گاراژ و اصطبل شرکت Stapman Coal Coal نمایانگر سهم قابل توجهی در الگوهای گسترده تاریخ است و مظهر ویژگی های متمایز اوایل قرن بیستم است. زندگی در واشنگتن ، دی سی. به همین دلایل ساختمان و سایت در ثبت ملی اماکن تاریخی ذکر شده اند. هویت جامعه جدید مسکن برگرفته از این تاریخ غنی است.

روند طراحی

این طرح شامل یک طبقه پنج طبقه به سایت است که در مجموع ۱۱۴ واحد زندگی مقرون به صرفه و با نرخ بازار است. توسعه با حفظ اوایل بیست و چهارمین جزئیات سبک صنعتی ساختمان ، از این منبع تاریخی تجلیل می کند. این لابی در حال حاضر در خارج از شافت واقع شده است که به عنوان آسانسور اتومبیل برای بلند کردن فورد Model-Ts و سایر وسایل نقلیه به خلیج های خدمات آنها استفاده می شود. فضاهای خدماتی سابق اتومبیل با کف ترازو تبدیل به واحدهای مسکونی شده است که در یک باغ جلوی پر تراکم کاشته شده اند.

واحدهای مسکونی جدید در پشت بام ساختار تاریخی شکل “مانیتورهای نوری” را به یاد می آورند که در گاراژ اصلی وجود دارند تا نور شمالی را به فضاهای کاری با نور تبدیل کند. خطوط دیداری به دقت مورد توجه قرار گرفت تا واحدهای مسکونی جدید روی پشت بام از خیابان قابل مشاهده نباشند.

project description of Historic Chapman Stables Housing Community

 A housing community is the latest reincarnation of this one hundred and ten-year-old structure. Built by J. Edward Chapman in 1908 over the remnants of his horse stable destroyed by fire and his old coal yard sales shed, Chapman Coal Company Garage and Stables represents a significant contribution to the broad patterns of history and embodies distinctive characteristics of early twentieth century life in Washington, DC. For these reasons the building and site are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The identity of the new housing community is derived from this rich history.

design process

The design includes a five-story addition to the site that totals 114 affordable and market-rate living units. The development celebrates this historic resource by preserving the early 20th cen-tury light industrial detailing of the building. The lobby is now located off the shaft that was used as an automobile elevator to lift Ford Model-Ts and other vehicles to their service bays. Former automotive service spaces with terrazzo floors have become living units opening to a densely planted front garden.

New housing units on the roof of the historic structure recall the form of “light monitors” that present in the original garage to allow northern light to illumi-nate workspaces. Sightlines were carefully considered so that the new housing units on the roof are not visible from the street.
